Hi All,

Summertime was one of the best times of year when I was growing up, and it still is today. I remember the fun times, no school, no responsibilities, nothing to do all day but wander around looking for mischief to get in to and swimming every day. Man, I sure did love the swimming.

As adults, we often find ourselves caught in the whirlwind of responsibilities and routines, leaving little room for the carefree bliss that once defined our summer days. Yet, the essence of summertime – that feeling of endless possibility, warmth, and light-heartedness – doesn’t have to be a distant memory. Here’s how we can rekindle that summertime feeling and infuse our adult lives with a dose of seasonal magic.

Rediscover Outdoor Adventures

Remember the exhilaration of exploring the great outdoors? I remember walking; yes, walking, to the local park and swimming in the public pool. It’s time to step outside and reconnect with nature. Plan a weekend camping trip, hike through local trails, or simply enjoy a picnic in the park. The sun’s embrace and the earth’s grounding presence can reignite the spark of adventure that summer always promised. Take advantage of the longer days to plan activities and if you can’t get away. You’ll be surprised how many fun and interesting things are happening right in your own town.

Cultivate a Summer Garden

There’s something inherently therapeutic and summery about the act of gardening – the vibrant colors, the fresh scents, and the joy of nurturing life. Whether it’s a few potted plants on your balcony or a full-fledged garden in your backyard, the act of growing your own flowers, herbs, or vegetables can be a therapeutic and rewarding way to capture the essence of the season.

Embrace Seasonal Foods

Summer’s bounty offers an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables that can inspire your inner chef. Visit a local farmers’ market and let the season’s produce guide your culinary creations. From juicy watermelons to ripe tomatoes, incorporating these flavors into your meals can be a delicious reminder of summer’s abundance. Most people will cook outdoors if they can during summer. It’s a great opportunity to BBQ more and it keeps the house cooler.

Create New Traditions

As children, summer was a time of traditions – family vacations, neighborhood block parties, and annual festivals. Why not create new traditions as an adult? Host a summer solstice party, organize a beach clean-up, or start a book club that meets under the stars. These events can become the milestones that mark your summers to come. Try different and interesting activities with your family. Keep the ones you like and discard the ones you don’t.

Indulge in Nostalgia

Sometimes, rekindling that summertime feeling is as simple as indulging in nostalgia. Dust off that old bike and go for a ride, run through the sprinklers, or watch a sunset while licking an ice cream cone. Allow yourself to be whimsical and playful – summer is the perfect excuse for this.

Take a Break

In our non-stop world, taking a break is a revolutionary act. Use your vacation days, turn off your phone, and give yourself permission to relax. Whether it’s a staycation or a trip to a tropical destination, stepping away from the daily grind can help you appreciate the leisurely pace that summer invites. I take hikes on local trails. Usually, there’s little or spotty cell phone service. So, you can take advantage of being “off the grid”. It forces us to interact with each other and not with our closest 5,000 friends on social media. Instead, we can “catch up” with what’s going on in the lives of those that matter most to us.

Learn Something New

The break from school during summer once meant freedom, but it also provided an opportunity to learn new things. As an adult, you can capture that sense of growth by picking up a new hobby or skill. Learn to surf, take a pottery class, or start writing that novel. Plan it out ahead of time and be patient with yourself. If you’re not an expert by week one, that’s ok. Set realistic goals to monitor your growth. But remember to have fun with it. You may find that you’re not cut out for it, and that’s ok too. The point is to try and see what happens. Summer is the perfect time to expand your horizons.

Connect with Community

Summer has a unique way of bringing people together. Engage with your community by attending local events, volunteering, or simply spending more time with friends and family. My city puts out a monthly newsletter, and I’m sure that most of them have a website with a community page. Look for local events nearby that interest you. Especially in the summer there will be trips to events, fairs, and maybe even “movies in the park”. These are events that bring communities together and you’ll be surprised and the nice people you can meet. These connections can make the long days of summer feel even brighter.

In conclusion, rekindling the summertime feeling as an adult is about creating space for joy, relaxation, and a little bit of magic. It’s about embracing the season with all its potential for growth, connection, and fun. So go ahead, chase that summer feeling – it’s waiting for you, just as it always has been.

Respectfully,

Mario
