Hi All,
Working out at home is a convenient and cost-effective way to stay fit and healthy no matter what age group you are in. There are also many benefits of exercising at home, vs. at a gym, such as saving time, money, and space, as well as having more flexibility, privacy, and comfort.
We all know that exercise should be a regular part of our daily lives. This practice alone provides an enormous number of benefits to virtually every facet of not only our bodies, but also our quality of life in general. I think we can all agree that this is a fact.
Another fact that probably won’t be considered controversial is that most of us are so busy that the idea of cramming literally anything else into our daily schedules seems out of the question.
You may say that working out at a gym has its advantages, like having a Personal Trainer or having access to high quality equipment that you may not have room for at home like treadmills, elliptical trainers, steam rooms or even a pool. And I would agree that these are plusses in that argument.
However, you should consider that working out at home also has its own advantages.
Fitting in an exercise routine in the comfort of your home comes with many benefits. Here are some examples of how this can provide you with a way to manage the craziness of day-to-day life, while also keeping your body healthy and fit.
One of the main benefits of working out at home is that it saves time.
Going to the gym or a fitness class can take up a lot of time, especially if one has to commute, wait for equipment, or follow a schedule. For many people, the commute to and from the local gym can often take longer than the actual work out. This is especially true if you are in the habit of working out right after work, 5 o’clock traffic is a real bummer. Working out at home eliminates these hassles and allows one to exercise whenever and however they want. This can also help one to stick to their fitness goals and avoid skipping workouts due to lack of time or motivation.
This fact alone keeps many individuals from even attempting to establish a fitness routine. Time, especially in our world today, is a precious commodity. The last thing most of us can afford is to dedicate several hours of our day to working out for, at most, an hour.
I take advantage of my hour lunch break by taking a walk after eating. I’ve found that by walking at a brisk pace I can walk a mile each day. This may not be a lot to some, but by doing this each day it eventually all adds up. Remember that easy does it. “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.”
Working out at home is the solution to this issue. There is no extra time involved (you’re going home anyway, hopefully), and zero time spent waiting for a piece of equipment or rushing to make it to a group exercise class on time. When home is your gym, everything you need is already right there waiting for you any time you are ready!
Cost Efficiency
While having access to the large array of equipment included in most commercial gyms is great, it is certainly not a necessity to get an effective workout in. Even without buying a single piece of equipment, you can easily get the job done.
Your body alone is capable of a ton of things. One of these things is serving as your own personal set of weights. You are probably already aware of the usual bodyweight exercises such as push-ups, squats, and burpees. These fundamental movements alone can whip you into shape. However, there are many more creative exercises you can literally perform in your living room using your body alone.
I remember years ago when going through Marine Corps Boot Camp, we didn’t “hit the gym”. We did push-ups (way too many to count, lol), jumping jacks, burpees (squat thrusts) and running. And that got me in the best shape of my life.
Even if you decide some equipment is required, the price you will pay for a few items such as resistance bands, a jump rope or even a couple of kettle bells will still cost you less than a few months’ membership at many gyms.
Whether you decide to build a fitness routine around bodyweight exercises alone or pick up a few extra pieces of equipment, working out at home will certainly save you money in the long run!
Also, working out at home saves money. Gym memberships, fitness classes, and personal trainers can be expensive and may not fit everyone’s budget.
There are also many free or low-cost online resources, such as videos, apps, and podcasts, that can provide guidance and inspiration for home workouts.
A great benefit of a minimalistic work out at home is that it saves space. Many people do not have enough room in their homes to store bulky or heavy equipment, such as treadmills, bikes, or weights. Working out at home can solve this problem by using minimal or no equipment and utilizing the available space, such as the living room, bedroom, or backyard. One can also adjust their workouts to suit their space, such as doing yoga, Pilates, or HIIT (high-intensity interval training).
You can even include family members (spouses and children) to help keep each other motivated and just to have fun at it. I know someone that took up bike riding to stay in shape. He got his teenage daughter to join in and they take long bike rides together with a group of friends they know. It’s become a weekly activity that they both enjoy and it’s a great bonding experience.
Free Of Distractions and Insecurity
Another benefit of working out at home is that it offers more privacy and comfort. Working out at home can help one to avoid the crowds, noise, and distractions of the gym or a fitness class. One can also avoid the pressure, judgment, or comparison that may come from working out in front of others. Working out at home can help one to feel more relaxed, confident, and comfortable in their own body and environment.
Two common factors that keep a lot of people out of the gym are the annoying patrons that hog the equipment while they incessantly check social media and the feeling that other people in the building are judging them.
Needless to say, making your home the gym solves both of these annoyances automatically. In the home environment, you are able to enjoy a focused workout in which challenging your body and improving your physical fitness are uninhibited by other people.
One more benefit of working out at home is that it provides more flexibility.
Working out at home gives one more control over their workout routine, such as the type, intensity, duration, and frequency of their exercises. One can also customize their workouts to match their mood, energy level, and personal preferences. For example, one can choose to listen to their favorite music, watch their favorite show, or follow their favorite instructor while working out at home. One can also change their workouts easily and try new things without feeling bored, intimidated, or searching for an activity that you want to try that fits into your schedule.
There’s always going to be some new exercise, routine, or training that is the “next best thing”. While working out at home to your own schedule you can try them, or not. YOU are in charge of YOUR work out.
Just like working from home, your home workout routine should be scheduled, and have a goal. What are you looking to accomplish? Are you trying to get toned and fit? Or just trying to lose some weight so that you can fit into that outfit or pair of pants that seems to have gotten smaller since you last wore it.
In conclusion, working out at home is a beneficial and enjoyable way to exercise and improve one’s health and well-being. Working out at home can save time, money, and space, as well as provide more flexibility, privacy, and comfort. Working out at home can also help one to achieve one’s fitness goals and have fun along the way.
But remember that as with all things, you get out of it what you are willing to put into it.
Respectfully,
Mario
